Overview
We invite you to share in creating a unique space where our concern for the environment goes beyond maintaining a pristine location and cancelling our travellers’ carbon footprints. Ban Mai Beach Resort deliberately selected a site that is in need of a little loving care to bring it back to its former glory days.
Don’t get us wrong. The beach is gorgeous, the water incredibly clean and clear, the mountains lusciously green—as our photos will attest. But there aren’t as many trees, birds and animals from years of farming the land. And the sea life could use a helping hand after centuries of fishing.
As part of our efforts to establish a “Green Riviera” along the Vietnamese coast, Ban Mai Beach Resort will implement the following environmental initiatives:
| Forest reestablishment | Erosion control |
| Consolidated waste management systems | Flood control |
| Flora & fauna reestablishment/renewed biodiversity | Water filtration & purification |
| Artificial reef for fish habitat | Water Desalination |
| Plant-a-Fish Program endorsed by Fabian Cousteau | |
In the aim to be eco-sustainable and self-sustaining, the Resort will use the most modern of alternative energy technology including:
| Photovoltaic cells (solar panels) | Vertical-axis wind turbines |
| Solar thermal concentrators | Micro hydroelectric systems |
| Methane bio-digestion | Agro-waste burners |
Conscious of existing environmental problems, the resort will adopt integrated sustainable building elements including using:
| Reclaimed/reused timber structures | Non-toxic materials, finishes, and techniques |
| Locally-sourced bamboo and hardwood | "Natural Pool" freshwater pools |
| Passive ventilation | |
In order to better blend into the environment of mountains, flood plains and seashore, Ban Mai Beach Resort is using a modular construction concept as well as a biomimicry-informed structural design concept with the lotus flower as our inspiration. These will minimize the impact of the resort on the surrounding natural environment.
